Children's Policy

From our experiences in 2007 it became apparent that we needed to make a decision regarding children staying at the Rose in Vale.

The fact is that we are a small luxury hotel and as such we cannot be all things to all people.

The majority of our guests are "more mature" and choose to stay here to enjoy the peace and quite of our lovely tranquil setting.

We had a small number of guests staying with young children who, against our wishes kept their young children in the dinning room until late, and then took them into the bar and lounge until the adults wanted to go to bed.

We accept that this may well be the accepted norm in modern society, but it is not the accepted norm at the Rose in Vale.

Such a situation is no good for the families staying at the hotel, nor for other guests, nor for the Hotel and nor for the owners who are trying to please everyone.

It is for this reason that we decided to decline to accept bookings for children under 12 years of age.

We have and will continue to make exceptions to this rule for families who wish to stay with us, on the understanding that they accept and respect the ethos of the Hotel.

For these guests we would like to advise that we can serve a high tea at 6 p.m. and we would like the dining room vacated by 7 p.m. for our main dinner service. We are unable to provide a listening service as we do not have a dedicated person for such duties.

There are many Hotels in Cornwall which are set out to provide good holiday accommodation for young families, and are excellent at catering for them, but we are not one of these.

We feel therefore that it is better to let such establishments cater for young families and for us to concentrate on looking after guests who appreciate a child free environment.

This policy does not apply where people have booked exclusive use of the Hotel for a private function.
